The call for entries officially opens July 21st for the 2009 New York Festivals Television Programming and Promotion Awards, formerly The International TV Broadcasting Awards. The NYF, now in its 51st year, recognizes "The World's Best WorkTM" in its Television Programming and Promotion Awards. The competition honors programs in categories such as news, documentary, information and entertainment programming, in addition to music video, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and IDs.
In 2008, this internationally respected competition honored illustrious winners such as Showtime Networks, HBO, CNN and Current TV. Last year's prestigious Broadcaster of the year honor was awarded to ESPN, who received five Gold Medals, five Silver Medals, three Bronze Medals, and ten Finalist Certificates. ESPN also won the coveted Grand Award in the category Best Promotion Spot/ID for "2007 NBA Finals Open," a spot that showcased sixty sensational years of tradition and memories of the NBA.
In last year's Television Awards competition, the distinguished members of the New York Festivals International Board of Judges put the spotlight on the Grand Trophy winners, choosing Grand Awards recipients from among the highest scoring Gold Medalists in the competition. The 2008 winners include: ESPN (Bristol, Connecticut), Power (London, England), who took home the coveted Grand Award for Best Entertainment Program for their entry "Flood", and Kaufmann Productions (Paddington/Sydney, Australia), who won the Grand Trophy for Best Documentary for "CUTTLEFISH: The Brainy Bunch.". News 12 Westchester (Yonkers New York), was presented with the Grand Award in the category Best News Program/Insert for "Forgotten Heroes," an in-depth view of the tragic fatal illnesses that the 9/11 first responders experienced.
Leslie Rasimas, New York Festival's Executive Director of the Television Programming and Promotion Awards, announced "This year's competition will be bigger and better than it has been. With a world class jury, illustrious board of directors, and new leadership, this award is rising in a new direction."
In addition to her duties as Executive Director, Ms. Rasimas also spearheads the NYF Radio Broadcasting Awards and the AME Awards for Advertising and Marketing Effectiveness. She has been instrumental in initiating a complete restructuring of the Television Programming and Promotions categories to reflect the change in the current work being produced in the industry. "There were many categories that were no longer popular or relevant; we have condensed many categories for the efficiency of the competition" Ms. Rasimas commented. She also completely revamped the entry pricing of the 2009 NYF TV Competition. For simplicity, this year's competition offers only two basic prices to enter, as opposed to previous years, when there were seven different fees based on program length. The new fee for a single entry is $275, and $375 for a series. These changes have streamlined the submission process, ensuring ease in registration.
In 2008, the New York Festival International Television Awards received entries from 32 countries. Each entry was screened by the NYF judging panels, which were comprised of several hundred producers, directors, writers, and other media professionals from around the world. Previously, the TV Broadcasting entries were judged by live panels of industry experts in New York, and at TV stations around the world, while promotional entries were judged online. This year, all entries in the competition that are less than 10 minutes in length will be judged online, while entries with lengths that are longer that 10 minutes will be judged onsite by an international panel of industry professionals.
All winning entries of the International Television Programming and Promotion Competition are featured in our Showcase section of our website www.newyorkfestivals.com, and our network of representatives promote the winners of the NYF internationally in 62 countries around the world.
