Grand Awards Go To Australia, England and USA; ESPN Wins Broadcaster of the Year

The New York Festivals (NYF) 2008 International TV Broadcasting Awards Grand Trophies went to Kaufmann Productions of Paddington/Sydney, Australia; Power of London, England; ESPN of Bristol, Connecticut and News 12 Westchester of Yonkers, New York. The prestigious accolades were presented at a formal gala held at the Tribeca Rooftop in lower Manhattan.

Kaufmann Productions won in the category of Best Documentary for "CUTTLEFISH: the Brainy Bunch," a documentary about one of the strangest animals on the planet, the cuttlefish. These morphing creatures have largest brain to body ratio of all invertebrates. Power captured the Grand Award for Best Entertainment Program for an entry titled "Flood," a program that depicts a scenario in which millions of Londoners lives are at stake following a massive storm that floods the city. ESPN took the Grand Award in the category Best Promotion Spot/ID for a piece titled "2007 NBA Finals Open." The spot celebrated 60 spectacular years of memories and tradition of the NBA. News 12 Westchester won the Grand Award in Best News Program/Insert for their entry "Forgotten Heroes," a haunting look into 9/11 first responders' illnesses that have led to untimely deaths.

ESPN was named Broadcaster of the Year for winning five Gold, five Silver, three Bronze and ten finalist certificates, in addition to their prestigious Grand Award. 

The 2008 TV Broadcasting Awards received entries from 32 countries. This international competition has recognized the world's most outstanding news, documentary, information and entertainment programming, as well as the best music videos, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and IDs for 48 years.

Each entry was screened by NYF judging panels composed from industry experts including producers, directors, writers and other media professionals in the New York area. Winning entries will be showcased at www.newyorkfestivals.com and promoted by NYF representatives in 62 countries.
